the challenge
Houghton Festival required clear waste signage for its 2026 event at Houghton Hall in Norfolk, helping attendees identify the appropriate bins across a site covering approximately 1,000 acres. With around 12,000 attendees, effective waste separation was an important part of the festival’s wider waste management approach. Making each waste stream easy to recognise helps encourage materials to be separated correctly at the point of disposal, reducing the risk of contamination and supporting more efficient collection and processing. We were approached with a requirement for 200 bin toppers across four waste categories, creating a clear and reusable waste segregation system for the festival. The signage also needed to be visually engaging and suited to the festival environment, while incorporating the supplied artwork and AreYouMad branding.
the process
ARTWORK & BRANDING:
The customer supplied artwork for Food Waste, Plastics, Cans and Other Waste. Each design used clear labelling and supporting graphics to give the four categories their own visual identity. The artwork also featured sponsored AreYouMad bears, linking the bin toppers with the festival’s wider recycling activity.
PRODUCTION:
We produced all 200 bin toppers in-house, with 50 of each design, using a durable material suitable for use across the festival site. The material provided a practical solution for the event environment while keeping the supplied graphics clear and visible. We also supplied the required fastenings for installation, providing a straightforward way to securely attach the finished signage to the bins.
DELIVERY:
With the festival taking place from 6–9 August 2026, delivery was scheduled for Friday 31st July, giving the customer time to install the signage ahead of the event.

The completed order provided Houghton Festival with 200 branded bin toppers across four waste categories, creating a clear and reusable waste segregation system across the site helping festivalgoers identify where different types of waste should be placed while fitting naturally within the festival environment. By encouraging separation at the point of disposal, the toppers support the wider collection and processing of waste, while their reusable format allows the system to be used across future events.
